Little did the Smothers Brothers know how significant a sentiment “Mom Always Liked You Best” would turn out to be when we think about and work with people in conflict. Family Facilitation is the perfect venue to consider how trauma impacts relationships within the family, in particular because one of the guiding principles of facilitation is to be process-oriented rather than solution-focused. In encountering defensiveness, aggression and resistance from individuals in the process, bringing a trauma-informed lens illuminates and guides us to a different and more compassionate way of interacting with the wounded party or parties, and open the possibility for resolution.
There will be relevant material presented and case examples will be provided for a lively interactive conversation!

Resa S. Eisen, MSW, RSW
Resa graduated with her Masters in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1976. After working for seven years as a staff social worker at the Family Court Clinic in Toronto, Resa established her own private practice as a trainer, mediator, facilitator and consultant, and she has worked in the public and private sectors for over 35 years.
Her mediation practice has focused on family law, workplace issues and elder and family conflicts. In 2012, she designed a three-day Elder Mediation Training Program, and created PPREP™, a precedent-setting facilitation process which assists in complex, multi-party disputes. Resa is dedicated to training professionals to understand the intricacies of interpersonal communication and family dynamics and the significant role they play in any negotiation. Resa also co-founded the Essential Conversations Project® in 2013 and continues to use that model to help older adults and their families prepare, plan and make decisions in mid-life and beyond, through facilitated conversations. In addition to being a mediator, she has expanded her vision of Facilitation as a unique ADR process.
Resa is an Accredited Family Mediator of the Ontario Association of Family Mediation, a member of Family Mediation Canada as a past Board member of the ADR Institute of Ontario, where she is currently the Chair of the Elder Section. An accomplished public speaker, she has been invited to present at many conferences and she has appeared on radio and television programs across North America. In addition to her mediation/facilitation practice, Resa also maintains her clinical practice as a marriage and family therapist, and is an approved supervisor through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy
